Pashupatinath Temple on the banks of Bagmati River is one of the holiest Shiva temples in the world. A visit here is a deeply moving spiritual experience.
Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most sacred Hindu shrines in the world. Situated on the banks of the holy Bagmati River, just 5km from central Kathmandu, it is the temple of Lord Pashupatinath — a form of Lord Shiva. The complex dates back to the 5th century AD, though the current pagoda was built in the 17th century.
Every morning, the ghats by the river fill with pilgrims performing rituals. The smell of incense, the sound of bells, the sight of sadhus in bright saffron — Pashupatinath is a sensory experience unlike any other. Hindus believe that dying at Pashupatinath grants moksha — liberation from the cycle of rebirth.
For our Nepal Yatra Trip guests, a morning visit to Pashupatinath is always the most emotionally powerful experience of the entire tour. Many guests from Bihar have a special connection to this temple, as it represents the northernmost expression of their faith.
Entry for SAARC nationals (including Indians) is free. Timing is typically 5am–9pm, with the best light and energy in the early morning hours. We arrange our itinerary to ensure you can attend the aarti ceremony — a stunning ritual that takes place at the riverside ghats at sunrise.
